Biography of Sarah Neham Salz
SARAH NEHAM SALZ is the founder and director of the Suzuki Piano School of South Florida. Mrs. Salz earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami with a double major in applied piano and music education. She was awarded a Masters of Music from the same school, studying under Dr. Rosalina Sackstein. Post-graduate studies were with Frank Cooper, noted pianist and harpsichordist.
Ms. Salz is well-grounded in the philosophy and techniques of the Suzuki Method. She has been teaching piano using the Suzuki approach for more than twenty years. Her formal training in the Method was done under Haruko Kataoka, co-founder of the Suzuki Piano Method, and with Suzuki Teacher Trainer Bruce Anderson. She is currently working towards her teacher trainer certification. From 1992 – 2002, she and her late husband, Simon Salz, directed the University of Miami Suzuki Institute. In 2000, they created the Young Musicians’ Camp, which she continues to direct every summer.
When Dr. Suzuki was asked why he taught, his reply was:
"First for the love of the child, second, for the love of teaching, and third, for the love of the music that is taught to the child, but the child always comes first.
Because of a growing number of requests from parents who wanted their children to learn - and love - piano, Mrs. Salz founded the Suzuki Piano School in 1985.
